What is Disablement Cover?

Disablement Cover is insurance that provides a lump sum payment if you become disabled as a result of an illness or injury. In contrast to Dread Disease Cover, it covers more than just serious illnesses and assists you in replacing at least a portion of your income if you become disabled.

We offer two types of Disablement Insurance policies at Auto & General: occupation-based disability insurance and event-based disability insurance. Each is there to assure you that you will be able to support yourself and your family if you are unable to work due to a disability.

  • Profession disablement: If you become completely and permanently unable to perform the tasks of your usual occupation, this product will pay you a lump sum. In addition, given your education, knowledge, training, or experience, you are unable to perform any other type of work. This could be as a result of illness or injury.
  • Event-based disablement: This product pays a percentage of the sum assured for a specific disability based on the policy’s defined criteria. It includes injuries such as blindness, amputation of an arm or leg, becoming wheelchair-bound, and other incapacitating conditions.

If you become disabled and are unable to work, you are entitled to a one-time, tax-free payment. The amount will be determined by the type of coverage you select. Because your life can change unexpectedly in the event of disability, you are free to spend your lump-sum payout however you see fit. It can be used for day-to-day expenses, therapies, or any home modifications needed to make living with a disability easier on you and your family.
